What is Spinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal Decompression Therapy is an effective non-surgical treatment that alleviates back pain along with other problems connected with spinal disc injuries such as arm and leg pain along with numbness and tingling.Bulging discs, herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, squeezed nerves, sciatica, and arm or leg pain is frequently caused by abnormal stress and pressure on your discs.

Poor posture, bad body mechanics, repetitive stress and acute injuries misalign your spine and posture and cause your vertebrae to compress and stress your discs which then applies pressure and irritation to your joints and nerves. Compressed discs result in two major problems: a bulge or herniation of the disc that often presses on the nerve leading to pain and/or numbness and tingling.

The issue is frequently perpetuated since the compressed disc limits the flow of nutrients to itself and thus stopping the healing process. Conventional remedies include injections, pain medication and surgical procedures that are often ineffective and always have side effects. Spine Decompression therapy is an alternate that is approved by the Food and Drug Administration due to the evidence of its effectiveness.

Spinal Decompression is non-invasive and offers gentle decompression of the disc by using a computerized traction table. The patient is safely and securely stabilized on the table so that as it moves it applies a distraction force to the targeted area of the spine (the compressed disc). Then a distraction force is applied in between periods of relaxation which gently pumps the spine and disc developing a small vacuum action within the disc causing it to return to the proper and healthier shape. Similar to a repetitive stress injury, the decompression works in very minute increments. But over time that accumulates and allows the disc to remodel, heal and obtain the correct flow of nutrients needed to protect against inflammation, arthritis and future injuries.
